Bayer Leverkusen has extended the contracts with its managing directors Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes before the start of the new season. Carro will continue his activity as chairman of the managing board until June 2029, the sports managing director Simon Rolfes until June 2031. Carro has been in office since 2018, Rolfes since 2022.
The goals are clearly defined: The club wants to win titles. "Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes have developed Bayer 04 excellently", is quoted from Werner Wenning as chairman of the shareholder committee in a club statement. "The greatest sporting achievements in our club's history are equally the result of their work as the sustainable development of the entire club." Leverkusen won the double in 2024 under coach Xabi Alonso, finished second in the Bundesliga in 2025 and sixth in 2026. The club starts the new season with Spanish coach Carles Martinez.
"Our claim remains to continuously improve ourselves on all levels and also fight for titles in the future nationally and internationally", said Carro. "We want to set up Bayer 04 in such a way that we can regularly compete with the best teams in Europe and fight for the greatest sporting achievements", added Rolfes.
Leverkusen is currently in 6th place in the Bundesliga, has scored 68 goals and conceded 47. The club is 30 points behind the leaders Bayern Munich. The last game ended 1:1 against Hamburger SV. In the last four games, Leverkusen has 0 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. The new season starts with Spanish coach Carles Martinez.
