Surprise action from Martínez: Leverkusen coach sends letter to fans

Sent from the training camp of the Werkself in Blankenhain (Thuringia). Leverkusen's new coach Carles Martínez (42) wrote a handwritten letter to the „Nordkurve12“ on the back of a photo. The fan organization published the unusual writing on their Instagram channel.
The Spanish coach wrote in English: „Dear Nordkurve! From our training camp, I want to say that I'm very excited to be with you in the BayArena and in every other stadium. I know that you always support us, and that will be a key factor in enjoying a wonderful season. Fans and team together. Many greetings, Forza Bayer! Carles.“ The NK12 thanked him with a „Gracias, Carles“ for the successful surprise. But not only Martínez sent a letter. Also players (German and foreign), members of the coaching staff, as well as team manager and fan icon Hans-Peter Lehnhoff (63) wrote messages to a total of 17 fan clubs.

Martínez had emphasized from his first day as Bayer coach that the relationship with the fans is very important to him: „We must build a connection.“ It was no lip service, as the letter shows. That fans are allowed to attend training two days before a compulsory game has not been the case in Leverkusen for years.
