Bayer Leverkusen has officially named 1994 World Cup winner Jorginho a club legend – an emotional highlight during club chief Fernando Carro's Brazil trip. The ceremony took place in Rio's Parque Madureira, celebrating the social project “Bola pra Forward”.
What happened in Rio?
On July 12, Carro, accompanied by Jorginho and representatives of “Bola pra Forward”, visited the centre run by the former professional since 2000. The delegation unveiled a 30‑meter mural by artist Izzy, linking Bayer 04, Jorginho and the project. At the same time the club extended its support for another five years, securing work that has already helped over 16,000 children and youths.
Why was Jorginho made a legend?
Jorginho played for Bayer Leverkusen from 1989 to 1992, contributing significantly to the team’s rise. His on‑field achievements are now complemented by his community work. Carro stressed that the partnership “goes far beyond football” and that the project has changed many young lives over the past 25 years.
How does this relate to the current season?
Bayer Leverkusen currently sits 6th in the Bundesliga with 59 points, 17 wins, 8 draws and 9 losses from 34 games. The side has scored 68 goals and conceded 47 (+21 goal difference). The last result was a 1‑1 draw with Hamburger SV on May 16 2026. Recent form (DDLLW) shows the team still has room for improvement, while it remains 30 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
What does this mean for the future?
The renewed commitment to the project strengthens Bayer Leverkusen’s reputation as a socially responsible club. Carro said the extended partnership not only gives Rio’s youth new opportunities but also deepens ties between Brazil and Germany. For supporters it is another symbol of the Werk‑club’s global reach – a sign that on‑field success can walk hand in hand with community impact.
