Bayer Leverkusen faces SV Wehen Wiesbaden in DFB-Pokal. Trainer Daniel Scherning hopes for a chance against the Bundesliga top team. "Sportlich is a maximal challenging draw", said Scherning in a first reaction. "We can measure ourselves in our own stadium against one of the best teams in Germany. We are looking forward to it." Bayer Leverkusen is one of the top teams in the Bundesliga; the double win without a single defeat is only two years old. The past season was uneven, but sixth place secured the European Cup participation. In Wiesbaden, they are trying to make something out of it. "Maybe it's exactly this one day when we manage to go further against a top team", Scherning said courageously. "We see the game as a chance, especially so early in the season." The game will be played between August 21st and 24th. Leverkusen will come to Wiesbaden with a new coach: The club presented Carles Martínez Novell as the new coach just a few days ago. While a new face is to be found on the sidelines, it could be a reunion with an old acquaintance on the pitch for SVWW. Robert Andrich, who has been in the service of the Leverkuseners since 2021, played for SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the past and is still friendly with the club. He sent a video greeting to the members present at the 100th anniversary celebration of SVWW - in August, he might be seen in person in Wiesbaden again.
